When discussing parking on Main St. the question always arises who is actually using the space, is it customers, employees or the actual owner? The easy response should be customers, but that isn’t always the case and then the response will be well it should be! Maybe if we put a dollar value to the question, then we can put credence to, “well it should be.” There was a study done in Vancouver Washington to examine this very question, the results are as follows: the average parking stall will generate nearly $28,000 annually (2014). Now multiple that by the number of parking spaces on Main St. and the dollar amount becomes very impactful. Is there a parking problem on Main St. or is there a utilization problem on Main St.? I would conclude parking should be for customers and then we wouldn’t have to say, “well it should be!”
