Who We Are
Downtown Visalians (DTV) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making Downtown Visalia the true heart of our city—a place where friends connect, businesses thrive, and memories are made. We unite local businesses, community leaders, and residents to create a vibrant, welcoming district that celebrates everything unique about Visalia.
Through signature events, strategic marketing, beautification projects, and business support, DTV works every day to enhance the downtown experience for all who live, work, and visit here.
Our Story
In the early 1960s, downtowns across California faced serious challenges as malls and big-box stores drew shoppers away. Visalia was no exception—losing longtime anchors like J.C. Penney, Sears, Montgomery Ward, Woolworth’s, and J.J. Newberry.
Rather than watching their downtown fade, a passionate group of local merchants came together in 1963 to form Downtown Visalians. Their vision was simple yet bold: protect, promote, and preserve the downtown core.
Because of their commitment, Downtown Visalia not only survived but flourished. Today, it is recognized as one of the most successful downtown districts of its size in California—alive with restaurants, shops, entertainment, and community pride.
What We Do
Our strength lies in bringing people and resources together. As the unified voice for Downtown Visalia, DTV works to:
Host community events that welcome thousands and showcase downtown as the center of connection and celebration.
Support local businesses through marketing, promotions, and visibility across our platforms.
Partner with city leaders to maintain a clean, safe, and inviting district where people feel proud to gather.
Create memorable experiences that highlight Visalia’s culture, diversity, and small-town charm.
Together, we keep downtown strong, vibrant, and at the heart of our community.
