Downtown Visalia is getting a face-lift!
I am sure by now everyone is wondering what is going on Main St., the construction, the road being in poor condition, sections being closed in the early mornings, detour signs being posted, the list goes on. We are entering a three phase improvement plan to enhance downtown:
First phase: Cal Water Service is replacing the water main line from Willis to Garden. Replacement occurs overnight to lessen the impact on traffic and customer flow during business hours. I am happy to report they are ahead of schedule and work should be completed the end of July!
Second phase: The City of Visalia begins doing initial steps, survey and design work to begin the construction aspect to replace the aging street lights in the downtown area, originally installed in the 1930s. The actual laying of the conduit will be done by boring to lessen the disruption. Replacement of the actual light poles will begin January 2022. The replacement covers a large area of downtown not just Main St.
Third phase: A compete resurfacing of the roadway, Acequia, Main St. and Center St. This phase will commence January 2023.
On the completion of all the improvement projects, the infrastructure in the downtown area will be set for years to come. With the improved roadway also comes additional handicap parking. We are looking forward to brighter days in Downtown Visalia. Thank you for your patience!
